Workforce Overview

The Annapolis Coalition is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the recruitment, retention, training and performance of the prevention and treatment workforce in the mental health and addiction sectors of the behavioral health field.

As part of this effort, we seek to strengthen the workforce role of persons in recovery and family members in caring for themselves and each other, as well as improving the capacity of all health and human services personnel to respond to the behavioral health needs of the individuals they serve.

In the video on this page, the Coalition’s Senior Science & Policy Advisor, Michael Hoge, Ph.D., provides an overview of the major workforce challenges in behavioral health and discusses nine strategic goals for strengthening the workforce. This was the keynote address during the inaugural Behavioral Health Workforce Development Conference sponsored by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA).
